Safety & Security Committee
The Alvord Independent School District is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all students, staff, and visitors. In accordance with the requirements established by the Texas School Safety Center and the Texas Education Code, the District has established a Safety & Security Committee to support and strengthen campus safety initiatives.
The Safety & Security Committee serves in an advisory capacity and works collaboratively with district leadership, campus administrators, emergency responders, and community stakeholders to enhance school safety and emergency preparedness throughout the District.
Committee Responsibilities
The Safety & Security Committee is responsible for:
- Assisting in the development, implementation, and periodic review of the District's Multi-Hazard Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) to ensure it addresses the unique needs of each campus, facility, and support service.
- Providing recommendations to the Board of Trustees and District Administration regarding updates to the District's emergency operations plan based on best practices identified by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC), and other recognized school safety professionals.
- Supporting the completion of required safety and security audits and ensuring the District provides accurate and comprehensive information to the Texas School Safety Center.
- Reviewing reports submitted to the Texas School Safety Center to verify their accuracy and completeness.
- Consulting with local law enforcement agencies to identify opportunities for enhancing law enforcement presence and improving campus safety.
The Committee meets at least once during each academic semester and at least once during the summer, as required by Texas law.
