Standard Reunification Method

The safety and well-being of our students is the highest priority of the Alvord ISD Police Department and Alvord ISD. While we work diligently to prevent emergencies, circumstances may arise that require students to be released to their parents or legal guardians through a structured and controlled process.

This process is known as Student Reunification.

A reunification may become necessary during situations such as:

• Severe weather

• Extended power outages

• Hazardous materials (HazMat) incidents

• Fire or utility emergencies

• Law enforcement activity

• Other safety or security incidents requiring the orderly release of students

Alvord ISD utilizes the Standard Reunification Method (SRM), a nationally recognized protocol developed to provide a safe, organized, and efficient process for reuniting students with their parents or authorized guardians during an emergency.

Because reunification procedures differ from normal student dismissal, students may be transported to a designated reunification site that is different from their regular campus. Families will be notified of the reunification location and provided instructions through the District's official communication channels.

During a reunification event, parents and guardians should be prepared to:

• Bring a valid government-issued photo identification.

• Follow the directions of school officials and law enforcement personnel.

• Be patient, as every student will be released through a documented verification process designed to ensure their safety.

• Monitor official Alvord ISD communication channels for updates and instructions.

The reunification process is designed to protect every student by ensuring they are released only to an authorized parent, guardian, or emergency contact.

During a School Emergency

In the event of a school emergency, Alvord ISD and the Alvord ISD Police Department are committed to providing accurate, timely, and reliable information to our students, families, staff, and community.

To help ensure the safety of everyone involved, please follow these important guidelines:

1. Monitor Your Phone

Alvord ISD will send emergency notifications to the phone numbers and email addresses we have on file. Please ensure your contact information is current so you can receive important updates and instructions without delay.

2. Follow Official District Communications

Current information and updates will be provided through the District's official communication channels, including:

• Alvord ISD Website: www.alvordisd.net

• Official Alvord ISD social media platforms

• District emergency notification systems

Please rely only on official District communications for accurate information, as misinformation can spread quickly during an emergency.

3. Do Not Respond to the Scene Unless Directed

For the safety of students, staff, first responders, and the community, do not travel to a campus or emergency scene unless instructed to do so by Alvord ISD or law enforcement officials.

Arriving at the scene may interfere with emergency operations, delay first responders, and hinder efforts to safely manage the incident. If student reunification becomes necessary, the District will provide detailed instructions regarding the reunification location and procedures.

Student Reunification Procedures

The safety of our students and staff is the highest priority of Alvord ISD. During certain emergencies, it may become necessary to relocate students from their campus to a designated reunification site. While every effort will be made to reunite students with their families at their home campus, the District may determine that another location provides a safer environment based on the nature of the incident.

If a reunification site is activated, Alvord ISD will notify parents and guardians of the designated pickup location through the District's official communication channels.

To ensure the safe, secure, and efficient reunification of students with their families, the following procedures will be followed:

Student Release Procedures

• Students will only be released to an authorized parent, legal guardian, or emergency contact listed in the District's student information system. A valid government-issued photo identification is required before a student will be released.

• Parents and guardians should remain calm, patient, and follow the directions of school officials and law enforcement personnel throughout the reunification process.

• If transportation by school bus becomes necessary, students will only be transported when the District has verified that an authorized adult will be available to receive the student at the designated destination.

• Students will not be released to babysitters, relatives, neighbors, or other individuals unless they are listed as an authorized emergency contact in the student's records. Parents are encouraged to review and update emergency contact information regularly to ensure it remains accurate.

• Upon arrival at the reunification site, parents or authorized adults will be directed to a Sign-In Area where identification will be verified. After verification, they will proceed to the designated Student Release Area to complete the checkout process and reunite with their child.

Transportation and Traffic

Depending on the nature of the emergency, roads surrounding the campus or reunification site may be restricted to emergency vehicles only.

To assist emergency responders and reduce traffic congestion:

• Follow all directions provided by law enforcement and school officials.

• Park only in designated areas if instructed.

• If you live within walking distance of the reunification site, consider leaving your vehicle at home.

• Do not attempt to bypass traffic control points or restricted areas.

Communication During an Emergency

During an emergency, Alvord ISD will provide timely updates through its official communication systems, including emergency notifications, the District website, and official social media platforms.

Please remember:

• Information shared on social media may be incomplete or inaccurate. Always rely on official Alvord ISD communications for verified information.

• Do not call the campus during an emergency or reunification event. Teachers, administrators, office staff, and support personnel are assigned critical responsibilities that require their full attention to ensure the safety and orderly release of students.

Our Commitment

Every Alvord ISD employee has a specific role during an emergency response. While your child's classroom teacher may not always remain with their class throughout the reunification process, another trained and authorized staff member will assume responsibility for supervising students as needed.

These procedures are carefully designed to protect every student and ensure that each child is safely reunited with their family as quickly and efficiently as possible. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation during these situations.
