Citizen Complaint Process
The Alvord ISD Police Department is committed to professionalism, accountability, and maintaining the trust of our school community. We welcome feedback regarding our services and encourage citizens to report concerns involving the conduct of our personnel.
All complaints are taken seriously and are reviewed in a fair, impartial, and thorough manner.
Filing a Complaint
A formal complaint against an Alvord ISD Police Officer may be submitted at any time.
In accordance with Texas Government Code, complaints alleging misconduct by a peace officer must:
Be submitted in writing using the District's official complaint form.
Be signed by the complainant.
Be notarized.
Information regarding the complaint process is available from any member of the Alvord ISD Police Department or by reviewing Board Policy CKE (LOCAL).
Complaint Review Process
Once a formal complaint is received:
A supervisor will review the complaint and interview the complainant, when appropriate.
The complaint will be evaluated by the Chief of Police.
If warranted, a formal Internal Affairs investigation will be conducted.
Witnesses and involved personnel may be interviewed, and all available evidence will be reviewed.
Upon completion of the investigation, the Chief of Police will review the findings and issue a final disposition.
The complainant will be notified in writing of the outcome of the investigation, as permitted by law.
Complaint Dispositions
Following a complete investigation, complaints are classified as one of the following:
Unfounded – The alleged incident did not occur or the employee was not involved.
Exonerated – The incident occurred, but the officer's actions were lawful and within policy.
Sustained – The evidence supports the allegation, and appropriate action will be taken.
Not Sustained – There is insufficient evidence to prove or disprove the allegation.
False Complaints
The Alvord ISD Police Department encourages the reporting of legitimate concerns. However, knowingly filing a false complaint against a peace officer is a criminal offense under Texas Penal Code § 37.08 and may result in prosecution.
